"Painful as it may be to hear it, there's nothing
special about the people of this country that sets them apart
from other people of the world. It is the Bill of Rights, and
only the Bill of Rights, that keeps us from becoming the world's
biggest banana republic. The moment we forget that, the American
Dream is over." (Alexander Hope in _Hope_)
Silly Season -- aka election time -- is starting to ramp up as 2008
approaches. Over the next 18 months, we'll hear more ads, more campaigns,
and mud-slinging galore.
What kind of leadership do we want in America? What kind of President?
If you've read our novel _Hope_ by Aaron Zelman and L. Neil
Smith (www.jpfo.org/hope.htm),
you know that we favor a President who will enforce the Bill of Rights.
So as a reminder, and a warning, we're going to periodically send
out _Hope_ quotes, words spoken by the character of Alexander
Hope.
As you read them, consider whether you agree. And then decide whether
your candidate measures up.
