Richard Dreyfuss: Rewrite Second Amendment
So It Applies To Militia Only
More militia fixation. Dreyfuss would do better to take note of "shall not be infringed". Training in use of a firearm is both sensible and desirable but if he wishes to emphasise anything at all just concentrate on voluntary gun safety and the need for self defense. Safety of course should be a wise decision made by all responsible gun owners. It's also most unlikely he has given much thought to the criminal elements, for whom the Second Amendment is totally incidental to being armed anyways.

In a July 23 interview published in the New York Observer, actor Richard Dreyfuss said he would like to rewrite the 2nd Amendment to make it clear it applies to the militia rather than individual rights.
Dreyfuss said this after being asked, “What was the Founding Fathers’ biggest mistake” and “What article of the Constitution would you rewrite?”
Dreyfuss said their biggest mistake was in not “[making] public education part of the Constitution.”
He then addressed the 2nd Amendment:
The Second Amendment. It’s the only Amendment that’s obscurely written, and I would have made it clear. I would have said, “This is for establishing militia and everyone has the right to participate in that militia, and you can have a gun if you participate in that militia.”
He suggested his desire to rewrite the amendment springs from the divide over gun control vs. gun rights in our country. He said, “One group says no guns even if some guy has a knife to my child’s throat and the NRA people say give me a semiautomatic missile or I’ll kill you.”
Dreyfuss then compared guns to cars, suggesting we will likely always have guns just like we will likely always have cars. He then added: “[But] no one would let anyone behind the wheel of a car without being trained in its use, so why can’t we have that?”
