This 19-Year-Old Made a
Fingerprint Lock Smart Gun

From MarketWatch.com (&: WSJ.com)

This was recently discussed on October 11th 2016, where we mentioned what are seen as the downsides. The video covers the same subject but includes more information about the clever young designer, as well as perceived problems.
To reiterate our own thoughts on the problems - "On paper, this probably seems (to anti-gun folks) the Holy Grail of "smart" technology, but like most all attempts at making "smart" guns it is inevitably flawed. Anything with a battery can fail and we can see that wet hands, gloved hands and maybe even a bandaid will pretty much prevent a release function. Periodically yet another supposedly fool-proof system is promoted as the ultimate, but there is really no such thing as a reliable "smart" gun - it's beyond wishful thinking."
All firearms can malfunction but a 'smart' approach can take that several steps further - can we say 'door stop'!
