“With ‘progressives,’” I’ve observed more times than I can recall, “every day is Opposite Day.” That truism, proven every time they spit out some inane, lying pronouncement, reveals who such people are better than any critique those who reject their demands for unopposed control ever could. That’s because it demonstrates (for all capable of thinking) the Orwellian “WAR IS PEACE, FREEDOM IS SLAVERY [and] IGNORANCE IS STRENGTH” contradiction that defines who these authoritarian cheerleaders are and why their deluded worldview is dangerous for anyone who is, you know, sane.
Case in point, in Portland, Bloomberg’s Demanding Moms are pressuring the Fred Meyer supermarket chain to ban open carry in its stores. Naturally, one of the MILMs leading the protest declares to the media that she supports the right to bear arms – and the gushing Oregonian propagandist posing as a reporter allows the obvious lie to go unquestioned and assumed true. Yes, she’s for it by being against it. Or something.
Mark Morford
Inevitably, along with chronic Bizarro World inconsistencies comes projection. So when “progressive” SF Gate “Author, Columnist, Yoga teacher [and] Admirer of trees” Mark Morford attributes record Black Friday gun sales to “scared white guys,” it’s fair to wonder who’s really afraid – along with why supposed champions of racial and sexual tolerance always seem to get so upset when there’s not enough melanin or estrogen in the mix to suit their demands.
“You’re a scared white person, almost certainly male,” Morford pronounces, or more accurately, condemns. “You do not live in a major city, or near a university or intellectual hub of any note, nor have you ever traveled very far from your home town, much less out of state or anywhere further than, say, Mexico. Once. And that was enough.
“You do not read complicated books,” Morford declares. Hey, he’s an admirer of trees. He knows things. “You do not like new or weird things. You watch lots of TV, mostly Fox News, which rejoices in showing you endless images of angry foreigners and minorities in pain: tear gas explosions, fights in the streets, looting, this time involving sad, small-town black people in Ferguson, all of them protesting the acquittal of that murderous white cop.”
And that’s the second time he’s libeled Darren Wilson. The first time he referred to Ferguson as – you guessed it – "the place where the white cop murdered that unarmed black kid." But then Morford makes no secret of viewing self-defense the province of “paranoid gun fetishists,” sharing the same “flaw” that “fuels the Republican party, Fox News, the Tea Party, homophobes, GamerGaters, racists and global warming deniers, et al.”
His list takes in pretty much anybody Morford doesn’t approve of. That’s a lot of people this guy’s got it in for. So much for our diversity being our strength. And so much for yoga providing spiritual benefits.
The point here is not to rebut Morford with references to comparative professional, academic and cultural credentials—it’s not like he’s interested in the truth or doing anything but venting his hate, which is exactly what he’s done here, and hardly for the first time. Besides, do you really care what he “thinks”? The object here is to use him as an example to illustrate the malevolent, lunatic deviancy that defines monopoly of violence cultists.
Julia Gorin
So if we truly want to talk about who fears what, perhaps Julia Gorin’s timeless “The Anti-Gun Male” from Jewish World Review will shed some insight. Yes, let’s be honest. He is scared of the thing.
We would then do well to consult “Raging against Self Defense” by Sarah Thompson, M.D., someone who no doubt has read some pretty complex books in her day. Yep, projection, denial, rage... it’s like this Morford character provided the case study she modeled her treatise after.
Funny, isn’t it, how “progressives” represent themselves as caring about the people on the lower-end of the economic spectrum, yet are the biggest cheerleaders the “One Percent” could hope for when it comes to the true egalitarian power sharing that an armed citizenry provides. And it’s curious, how an ideology that once extolled the virtues of “peasants” and “workers,” at least until power was secured, has produced effete snobs who attack the worth and question the refinement of other human beings who do not share their infatuation with degenerate totalitarianism.
That makes the true provincial clods and demonstrable bigots the self-styled “urbane sophisticates,” desperate to convince each other that they’re so much better informed (not to mention better endowed!) than we mere gun-clinging flyover rubes. And if you think about it, another truism fits: People who are ignorant fear, and people who fear hate.
I read that in one of them complicated books with big words that don’t have a lot of pictures in ‘em somewhere.
